The Grand Cru was surprisingly contemporary in style. It was a bit of the unexpected. It was definitely one of my favorite dining experiences during our stay in St. Thomas. For appetizers we ordered the Curry chicken dolmas with mustard tossed zucchini with caramelized onion Sambuca marmalades and the Tuna and fennel tartar with feta, tomato, cucumber and cardamom turmeric oil. For dinner we ordered Filet of Beef with lemon, rosemary and grape seed oil over gorgonzola creamed spinach and crispy caraway potatoes and flamed salmon with curried zucchini, charred calabazza and a red grape, feta cheese and pine nut relish. Every bite was decadent.
Aside from the variety of the menu and the beautiful presentation, the service was wonderful. We were seated promptly and taken care of with a professional yet relaxed Caribbean style. For us the martini bar was a fun twist on dessert (although, the cr譥 brule was to die for!).
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any traveler in that area. With its sleek, modern feel, we could have easily been sitting in a Manhattan upscale restaurant. It felt like a vacation from our vacation.
